Where: Merry St, Motherwell

When: Sat 12 May. 11:00 to 15:00

What a vibrant month ahead for Motherwell! This May will see the town involved in two major sport events: the OVO Energy Tour Series and the Scottish Cup Final.

To celebrate such a special occasion and build momentum, Town Centre Activities have put together an event full of amusements. On Saturday 12 May from 11am, Merry Street will turn into a sort of sports hall with lots of sporting attractions, including a ‘beat the goalie’ challenge, a human football table, a cycling obstacles course, sport-related performances and many other surprises. Let’s reveal one of them: Steelman, the Motherwell FC Mascot, will be around in Motherwell town centre from 11am until midday to entertain and take pictures with the public, shake hands and maybe even sign some autographs?

Whether you are a cycling or a football fan, a passer-by, or a fun-seeker, this event is for you. It is entirely free and everyone is welcome to participate, no matter your age or ability.

For those thinking of starting —or already into— a healthy lifestyle, come and try the interactive smoothie bike. Choose among your favourite fruits and vegs on the spot, ride the bike, and pedal until your smoothie is ready to drink. This may give you some extra energy for the exciting competitions we will be running during the day.

You can also bring along your own bike, get some advice by the Wishaw Mountain Biking Club or even have it looked over by a specialist bike doctor!

Don’t worry if you are not in the mood for exercising. We have prepared an exciting find-the-players competition with a great prize for the winner(s): four tickets for the first match of next season at Motherwell Football Club.

If you’d rather chill out and enjoy the festive atmosphere, we have good news, too. Lots of businesses in the town centre will be taking part in a best dressed window competition, filling Motherwell streets with colour. Why not walk around and snap them?

Remember, don’t miss this sports fun day on Saturday 12th May from 11am.

This 2018 comes packed of sporting events and competitions for North Lanarkshire, and more particularly for Motherwell. Before the Triathlon and Rowing competitions take place at Strathclyde Park in August as part of the European Championships, Motherwell will be involved in two high-profile sports events in the month of May.

The Tour Series competition comes back to town for Round 2 on Tuesday 15 May, kicking off at 12.45pm. This is the fourth consecutive year that Motherwell is included among the selected locations for this cycling race, which attracts hundreds of people to the town centre.

Only four days later, on Saturday 19 May, Motherwell FC will face Celtic in the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park. The club plays to achieve its third Scottish Cup, after its victories in 1952 and 1991.
